Obviously, I’ve played with Seth & Anton before, but this was the first time ever playing as a trio – and in front of a large (& enthusiastic) audience at a fundraiser for the Brighton Alternative Jazz Festival 2016! Great photos of the evening by Agata Urbaniak:
First outing of a new collaborative project with Martin Pyne (vibes) and Ed Riches (guitar), alongside Deemer and Cath Roberts.
I’ll be playing tenor sax with Anton Hunter’s awesome Article XI project.
Another new collaborative trio, this time with Seth Bennett (double bass) and Anton Hunter (guitar) organised especially in support of the awesome Brighton Alternative Jazz Festival. Also on the bill are some very exciting things, including a set from improvising guitarist Ian Brighton.

As part of the MJF listings announced today, is this lovely event / lecture / gig thing that I’m doing. Graeme Wilson will be doing the talking, and Adam Fairhall and me will be doing improvising! Should be a really interesting afternoon!

Ma/ti/om is the trio of Matilda Rolfsson (percussion), Tim Fairhall (double bass) and myself (bass clarinet & flute). We did some gigs in early 2015, and the trio immediately worked really well, so very pleased to be able to make available this recording of the group!
Many thanks to everyone that came down to the sax quartet’s live recording session at Hundred Years Gallery, it was such a special night! Really excited about how the results are shaping up!

Had a blast travelling around gigging in Germany-Poland-Czech-Austria-Germany with Beats & Pieces Big Band! A real pleasure to play at some great venues including Porgy & Bess in Vienna and the Bb in Berlin.
A couple of gigs that got missed:
The return of the hat jam, where improvisers submit to the will of a die and a hat full of names!
An enjoyable sunday afternoon big band gig depping on bari sax & bass clarinet & getting properly stuck into the LJO’s charts.

Paulo Duarte’s big band roars in the Salisbury Pub on Green Lanes, with special guests Dave O’Brien & Jason Simpson aka the Quadraceratops rhythm section!
A brand new collaborative quartet featuring myself alongside master improvisers Adam Fairhall (piano), Olie Brice (double bass) and Andrew Lisle (drums).
Back at the Vortex again with the LJO!
I’m depping again on baritone sax with Beats & Pieces for their trip to Germany, Austria and possibly some other surrounding countries. Hopefully I will be able to renew my passport before I have to catch the ferry…
We’re recording the first MSQ album at this very hip basement venue in Hoxton, presented by LUME.
I’ll be depping on bass clarinet playing some of Yazz’s lovely Arabic-influenced music. And maybe we’ll see the sea…! More details at Bournemouth Jazz Festival‘s website.
