Sunday 22nd March! Hundred Years Gallery!
Ti/om (Tom Ward/Tim Fairhall) + Alex Bonney/Cath Roberts CANCELLED. Sunday 22nd March 15:30
Ti/om is the improvising duo of Tim Fairhall (double bass) & Tom Ward (bass clarinet & flute). This will be the launch gig for their new recording “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”, which documents their 2016 residency in a bothy on the Isle of Eigg, off the west coast of Scotland.
They stayed for a week in winter, looking out over the mountains of Rhum; playing together and alone, walking in the hills, and meditating on the relation of music to place, and the process of inspiration. The music seeks an expression of personal responses to Eigg, to the wildness and the quietude both, to inhabit in the music the same emotional spaces as entered into on the island; trying to play in such a way that feels consonant with the state of being out on the hill.
Improviser, guitarist and constructor Han-earl Park (박한얼) has been crossing borders and performing fuzzily idiomatic, on occasion experimental, always traditional, open improvised musics for twenty years. He has performed in clubs, theaters, art galleries, concert halls, and (ad-hoc) alternative spaces across Europe, Korea and the USA.
This will be the first meeting of a trio with master UK-based improvisers Alex Bonney (trumpet/electronics) and Cath Roberts (baritone saxophone).
Great fun playing live on ResonanceFM for the Hello Goodbye Show with Ti/om, as part of LUME’s Winter Solstice!! Listen again here:

This new ultra-large ensemble collective collaboration takes off at IKLECTIK. Sharing the bill with Ripsaw Catfish & Entropi, should be a classic LUME night.

Ma/ti/om is the trio of Matilda Rolfsson (percussion), Tim Fairhall (double bass) and myself (bass clarinet & flute). We did some gigs in early 2015, and the trio immediately worked really well, so very pleased to be able to make available this recording of the group!
